* According to Khaosod English: Cambodians continue to live in areas that were formerly Thai refugee camps dating back to the 1970s.

Thailand informed the United Nations that Cambodians currently residing in areas originally opened as temporary shelters in the 1970s have not returned to their home country. Thailand views the continued presence of these Cambodians as an encroachment upon Thai territory.

Ambassador Cherdchai Chaivaivid made these remarks on September 28 during the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, as Thailand exercised its "Right of Reply."

The Thai ambassador is truly shameless and brazen—distorting the truth to turn the thief into the owner and the owner into the thief.

* According to a report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) dated March 26, 1999:

There are no longer any Cambodian refugees in the refugee camps in Thailand.  The final group of 705 people returned to Cambodia from Thailand on March 24, 1999. In total, approximately 50,000 refugees returned to Cambodia, with 35,000 of them receiving assistance from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Most of the refugees returned to the Anlong Veng area and Battambang province in the country's northwest. However, some refugees requested UNHCR assistance to return to the eastern region, where their families had left twenty years earlier. With UNHCR's help, 2,500 refugees returned to Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces.
