History of Bassac Theater: In the beginning, the locals called this theater "Treung Khlouk" because the artist performed live on the ground in the theater, which was built with a covered tree branch in the shape of a trek khlouk. At the same time, some Khmer-Krom call this theater Long-Term Drama because it is a Khmer heritage that has existed for a long time. Bassac Theater has rapidly grown in popularity as its director and performers are well-versed in literature, eloquent, poetic, and songwriter. The theater later became the subject of competition with Vietnamese Kai Lai and Chinese Hi. Therefore, the director of Bassac also copied the good points from Kai Loeun and Hi to synthesize and adapt to the circumstances, such as where there are many Khmer artists, speak and sing Khmer language, where there are many Vietnamese artists. Both Khmer and Vietnamese are used, and where there is a lot of Chinese, Khmer artists use both Khmer and Chinese. During the 1930s, bassac in Kampuchea Krom became very popular. Therefore, Mr. Ly Suon alias Cha Kroun, who is the leader, brought his art group to perform in central Cambodia, in Phnom Penh and in the provinces, but was not very successful because Khmer Kandal was still popular with the Mahori and Pramotoy theaters. There has been progress for a long time. After the defeat, Mr. Ly Suon, also known as Cha Kruon, invented a skillful flying technique and incorporated the fast-paced Huon in his performance, and then brought his troupe back to Central Cambodia by boat. Pok Chay has modern stage decoration equipment and has stage equipment on the ground or on a boat. This factor made the audience so excited that the Khmer Kandal called this theater Bassac. Since then, the name of Treung Khlouk or Youk Ker has been replaced by Bassac.
